Chamber Hosts Candidates Forum on October 5th

The McPherson Chamber of Commerce will host City of McPherson mayoral candidates Tom Brown, incumbent and opponent Harold Selzer at a 7:00 P.M. forum, Thursday, October 5th at the American Legion, 401 N. Main. The public is invited.

“The Chamber’s goal is to develop an informed electorate,” explained Jennifer Burch, Executive Director, McPherson Chamber of Commerce. “The forum is designed to give voters an opportunity to hear what the candidates have to say.”  Both candidates will have an opportunity to make a one-minute opening statement. Candidates have been given two prepared questions to begin the forum. They will each have two minutes to answer each of the questions. The format is question-and-answer as opposed to debate. Audience members will have the opportunity upon arrival and during the forum to write questions on cards for submission to the candidates.

For those not able to attend, the Chamber has partnered with McPherson News and KNGL/KBBE Radio. McPherson News will broadcast live via Facebook on the McPherson News Facebook page. Viewers will be able to post questions during the live feed in the comments section. All questions from the audience present and those from the Facebook page will be screened for duplication, legibility and suitability. A live broadcast on 96.7 FM- KBBE will be aired as well as streamed on www.midkansasonline.com on the listen tab.  Candidates will have two minutes to address each audience question.

“It is important that people take this time to meet the candidates and are aware of their positions on issues that are important to the City of McPherson,” said Burch. “Being an informed voter is key to making good choices.”
