Member Spotlight- McPherson Public Library

Repeat after me, “My name is _______, and I’m a bookaholic!” Whew, the good news is, the McPherson Public Library is open practically EVERY DAY, and it is FREE to check out books! Other than holidays, the library is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays from 2-5 p.m. Hurry on over to 214 W. Marlin to find thousands of books on every topic from historical fiction or mysteries to books on business & leadership. Did you know for those “bookaholics” or shall we just say “book lovers”, you can be put on a list to be notified when the library gets a new book from your favorite author? You can also suggest a book that you would like the library to get on loan or add to their collections. Another fantastic service that the McPherson Public Library offers, and a blessing to many, is when volunteers deliver books to patrons who are unable to visit the library due to limitations.

The McPherson Public Library is filled with books, magazines, DVD’s, books on CD, computers, toys, music and much more. Not only is the McPherson Public Library bursting with things to read, they also have genealogy resources and a McPherson room, unique displays of art and collections to see, and a variety of activities and programs to pique everyone’s interests. Shannon Brake, Marketing and Communication Manager shared information about their fall schedule of activities and programs including genealogy classes and a new program series called Big Ideas. Jennifer McCulley, Youth Services Coordinator, explained about their very successful 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program.  A delightful way to spend time with your kids or grandkids while developing language and listening skills, and stimulating their imagination!  Library Director, Steve Read, introduced the McPherson Public Library board and the staff told about their special roles. When I mentioned resources, these incredibly enthusiastic people are definitely part of that resource bonus, some having 20+ years at the library. Just ask, they would be happy to get you started with a library card, suggest favorite authors or help you navigate the resources at the library.
