Member Spotlight – McPherson Center for Health Stereotactic Biopsy System
On May 16th, McPherson Center for Health marked an exciting milestone with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting to celebrate the relaunch of its Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Services. With the addition of the Affirm Upright Breast Biopsy Guidance System and the Trident HD Imager, the hospital is offering more efficient, streamlined care that allows patients to stay within their own community for advanced diagnostics. The enhancements mean quicker results, fewer appointments, and a more comfortable experience for patients undergoing breast biopsies.
During a Q&A session, Radiology Director Tammy Field highlighted that the new technology is inclusive, supporting both male and female patients. “Breast cancer does not discriminate,” Field said, emphasizing the importance of accessible care for all. Chamber past president Chad Hitt (BPU) also praised the hospital’s investment, stating, “Today’s ribbon cutting is not just about new equipment, it’s about an investment in the health of our community. By bringing in this new technology, McPherson Hospital is not only improving care today, but also building a stronger, healthier tomorrow.”
Field shared how the Affirm system, which attaches directly to the existing mammography machine, allows the entire procedure to be performed in one room. This minimizes patient discomfort and significantly reduces the time required for the biopsy. The addition of the Trident Imager—fully mobile and usable in the surgical suite—means biopsy specimens can be analyzed immediately, without needing to be transported to another department. “This is how we give back to you,” Field noted. “We take care of our patients and our community.”
McPherson Mayor Tom Brown summed up the community’s enthusiasm by saying, “Every one of these new things is an opportunity to keep making this hospital better. If you go somewhere else, you’re wasting your fuel!” McPherson Center for Health’s radiology department operates 24/7 and offers a full range of diagnostic exams.
