Member Spotlight – Bluestem PACE
Bluestem PACE – Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly – is a unique and compassionate initiative located at 113 S. Ash in McPherson. This program is designed to help seniors aged 55 and older remain safely in their homes for as long as medically feasible, by offering a full spectrum of medical, therapeutic, and social services. “The goal of our program is to help seniors 55 and better live independently at home for as long as possible,” said Emilie Rains, Executive Director at Bluestem PACE. In celebration of National PACE Month this September, the center has been opening its doors to the public to share more about the services they provide. “It seems like yesterday and also 20 years ago, but this August we celebrated nine years of serving our territory and we’re really proud and excited about that,” Rains added.
What sets Bluestem PACE apart is its truly all-inclusive approach to care. Participants have access to a wide range of services under one roof, including primary and specialty medical care, physical and occupational therapy, nutritional guidance, social work, and even minor procedures like stitches or EKGs—all without needing to leave the facility. “We are all inclusive care,” Rains explained. “So, what we’re able to do in PACE is help folks remain independent in the home by providing just as much physical and occupational therapy as they will allow us to do. Because one of the big keys to remaining in your home is mobility, balance, being stable … So, we’re big into therapy here.”
Beyond medical services, Bluestem PACE fosters a strong sense of community and connection for its participants. From enjoying nutritious lunches to engaging in social activities or simply relaxing in communal areas, the program nurtures both physical and emotional well-being. Each morning, staff meet to review participant needs, ensuring no one slips through the cracks. Bluestem PACE also alleviates the burden on families by coordinating services in one centralized location.
