Board Member Spotlight – Amy Beckman

Amy Beckman
Executive Director, Career & Experiential Learning, McPherson College
Chamber Board Term: 2018-2021

“I grew up in Canton and graduated Canton-Galva High School with a class of 32, then went to Kansas State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Family Studies. After graduation, I moved to Washington state where I worked full-time as a counselor and case manager while pursuing my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from City University of Seattle. After my master’s degree, we moved back to Kansas to be closer to family and thus began my career in HR, with a majority of those years at the NCRA/CHS Refinery. After 15 years in HR, I decided to try something a little different and am now enjoying preparing McPherson College students for the workforce. Strikingly similar to HR, it connects to many colleagues, community partners and professions all around the country to provide connection and opportunity for MC students. My passion and interest has always been to serve others and make meaningful, purposeful connections with people. This has inspired years of work and volunteer service in Human Resources, workforce development, and counseling support services. All of this wouldn’t be possible without the love and support of my husband, Jason, and my 2 boys, Riley and Brayden, whom I enjoy sharing all kinds of life’s adventures with.”

The value of investing in the McPherson Chamber? “I love the connections with community that I am able to experience being a leader in the McPherson Chamber. Whether it is making something happen for our business members or community, or learning something new about our community, the Chamber serves as a central hub for connecting to the greater good in the community.”

First job? “My very first job was taking orders and serving patrons at the Canton Dari-Bar. My first job after college was as a Case Manager for the Washington State Employment Security Department, helping single parents with support services and preparing them with skills to become employed and better able to take care of their families.”

Favorite pet of all time? “Dog. In particular, an Australian Shepherd.”

Other than work, what would you rather be doing on a summer day? “Being on an adventure with family.”

What three words would you use to describe the McPherson Chamber? “Dedicated. Purposeful. Connected.”
