Heather Thiessen spoke about two new machines that APT utilizes to help patients. The unweighting harness can be used for patients with weight bearing restrictions due to a leg injury, stroke or balance issues to provide support during physical therapy. The other new machine has a vibration plate to keep the core strong, strengthen posture and speed up the healing process. Although not new, a machine that is widely used at APT is the traction/decompression machine for lumbar and pelvic therapy. This machine is unique in that it can swivel and tilt to reach exact areas of treatment. Advanced Physical Therapy often treats back and neck pain. This condition can sometime be caused by poor posture, extended periods at a computer or a result of the “texting neck”. Heather Thiessen recommended ways to reduce this ailment by working on better posture, strengthening your core and spending more time walking.
