As baby boomers are reaching their retirement years, the senior population is expected to double by 2030. Within your lifetime, (year 2050) the population over 85 will grow more than four times what it is today! Eye-opening statistics that spell out the importance of planning for the future needs of the community. The Cedars currently provides multiple housing options and levels of care, while continuing to expand for current needs and future expectations. The Cedars was founded 125 Years ago in Darlow, Kansas (hence the Darlow Drive street name). After a tornado destroyed the retirement home, they built in McPherson in 1952 and adopted “The Cedars” name in 1961. Fast forward to today, The Cedars has 300 residents throughout their retirement community. Offering everything from independent living, assisted living, health care living, and rehabilitation services to memory care living. Did you know that “after the age of 85, one out of every two people experience one form or another of dementia”? This statistic and others mentioned above were shared by Steve Gustafson, to inform the Chamber Connections crowd about the significance of their services and the need for their new memory care unit. The Cedars is in the construction stage of a 12-room memory care unit. Carma Wall, CEO let us take a quick peek as the Hutton Construction crew was busy working to finish before November.
