Membership Spotlight- ReUse It Center

The ReUse It Center, a wonderful concept created to keep construction materials out of the landfill and offer them to those in need, recently celebrated their 7th year as a successful faith based non-profit retail store. The ReUse It Center, located at 120 S. Hwy 81 Bypass, accepts donations of appliances, building materials, fixtures, non-upholstered furniture and items that can be repurposed. Thanks to the vision of board chair, LaVon Ediger, the ReUse It Center is saving space in the landfill, offering items at reasonable prices to the public, building relationships and supporting other community non-profits with the proceeds from this ministry.

Shulah Neff, store manager said they have over 100 volunteers but are always grateful for more. Volunteers enjoy the comradery of other volunteers as they share their talents in receiving, cleaning, tagging, stocking and sales while others are responsible for testing and repairing donated items before they are offered for resale. If items can not be repaired, they are recycled. The large warehouse is set up with areas for receiving, repairs and storage. To keep up with the generosity of donors, Mike Hinman was hired as the warehouse manager and oversees all the behind the scenes work.

Donations are tax-deductible and can be dropped off during operating hours: Tuesday 12-4pm, Thursday 3-7pm and Saturday 9-4. Check out their selection of furniture, kitchen items, flooring, lighting, appliances, plumbing, household items, decorations and everything you need for your DIY projects. Whether you donate items, volunteer your time, shop for treasures, or share their story, you are helping those in need. Proceeds from the ReUse It Center are donated back to area non-profits and globally through the Mennonite Central Committee. For questions call 620-245-0122 or connect with them on Facebook to see their unique new arrivals.
