Member Spotlight – Home State Bank

Home State Bank is an independent and locally owned bank with roots that run deep in Kansas beliefs and values. They are a community minded bank which is very apparent to anyone who walks into the lobby at the main Home State Bank during Christmas time. There in the middle of the lobby is a huge, uniquely decorated Christmas tree that nearly reaches to the ceiling. What make it uniquely decorated is that its “ornaments” are stocking hats, mittens, and woolen scarves. It’s the Community Mitten Tree that Home State Bank, along with the K-State Wild Kids 4-H Club have in order to collect cold weather items to be distributed to all the elementary schools in McPherson County for children in need.

Home State Bank was chartered back in 1903 in McPherson, and as Brad Bengtson puts it they’ve “been around a long time!” In 2012 Home State Bank merged with Citizen’s Bank in Moundridge. Together they have ten locations which are found throughout McPherson County and in Harvey County as well. Home State Bank is a full-service bank offering loans for your home, auto, business, or farm. They also help with investments and financial planning through their partner, Citizen’s Financial Services. They can be a great resource when you’re ready to put together a financial plan at whatever stage you are at in life.

“What makes a bank and any business great is its employees,” said Bengtson. Home State Bank has around 40 employees that work in the McPherson locations. “We have a great positive staff throughout the three locations we have in McPherson,” he said. The bank lobby is open typical hours: Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Drive Thrus are open 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8:30 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. “I’m very thankful for the work those guys do,” Bengtson said. Home State Bank also has a Call Team that is dedicated to providing customer support for things like tracking checking account balances or helping to transfer funds from one account to another. Their Online Banking Center makes it easy for customers living or travelling anywhere in the United States.
