Member Spotlight – McPherson Water Park
The McPherson Water Park is making waves this summer, offering families and individuals a refreshing escape from the Kansas heat. With temperatures soaring into the 90s—and even triple digits—there’s no better place to cool off, relax, and enjoy some outdoor fun.
The Admin for the City of McPherson Public Lands & Facility, Ludi Egging, welcomed the folks to Chamber Connections hosted at the Water Park. Ludi said, “If you guys are not aware, July is National Recreation Parks Month.” And added, “We’re really excited to have stuff happening here in our parks in July.” From daily swimming to special events, the McPherson Water Park is the center of summer activity in the city.
Did you realize that the Water Park Open is only open for just 75 days each summer season? But it sure packs in plenty of fun in such a short time! The park is operated by Shawna Smith, a Recreational Specialist who has been with the City for 10 years, including three years running the Water Park. Shawna shared the variety of programs available—“We have swimming lessons. We host many events – triathlon. We do the Pooch Plunge, which is something we started which has been a pretty good deal. We have the Fire Department that comes out and does Dive Training. They do Water Rescue Training. EMS comes out with them.” And she added, “We do Family Nights every Friday from 5 to 8. It’s $10 per family up to seven people. So those are always good.”
Located at 511 Lakeside Drive, the McPherson Water Park is more than just a place to swim—it’s a community hub where families gather, memories are made, and everyone can enjoy the best parts of summer.
