Member Spotlight – The Cedars
Tucked away at 1021 Cedars Drive, The Cedars is more than just a retirement community — it’s a place where residents find comfort, connection, and lifelong support. As one of the oldest retirement communities in Kansas, dating back to the 1890s, The Cedars has proudly served generations of residents for over 135 years. With over 300 residents on campus, The Cedars offers a full range of services including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Healthcare Living, and Rehabilitation. “We are what is called a Life Plan Community,” said Austin Russell, Senior Living Advisor. “So, the model is, that once you move here, we’re going to take care of you for the rest of your life. That’s just what we do.”
In July 2025, The Cedars entered a new chapter through an affiliation with Bluestem PACE, a move that has received positive feedback from the broader community. LaMonte Rothrock, former CEO and now Director of Transition, shared, “All we’ve heard from the denomination, all we’ve heard from the community is – great move! And of course, internally we believe that also.”
Rothrock emphasized that while the affiliation brings exciting new opportunities, The Cedars remains true to its roots: “Will we continue to be The Cedars? And the answer is yes. We continue to be The Cedars, an affiliation of Bluestem Communities. Second of all is really important for us to stay affiliated with the Brethren Fellowship Homes, which there’s eleven of us across the United States. So, we are still affiliated with our denomination too. So, we feel like it’s been win-win-win for us.”
The campus at The Cedars is designed with warmth and activity in mind. From the spacious dining area and cozy conversation spots in assisted living, to the vibrant Community Room and well-stocked library, residents enjoy both comfort and community. As Russell put it, “We’re here to simplify your life.
