Member Spotlight – The Locker Room Nutrition & Energy

Initially Katie Murray’s business model was to open an Herbalife cafe location, make it successful, sell it, and move on to open a new location. First, she did it right out of college in Wichita, then in Newton.

“That was the plan – to just keep opening stores and handing them off,” she told those gathered for the March 7th Chamber Connection.

But something changed when she opened The Locker Room Nutrition & Energy at 101 N. Main in McPherson.

“I fell in love with McPherson, bought a house, and am pretty rooted here so I don’t anticipate leaving,” Murray said. “I think McPherson is just a really special community.

“At The Locker Room, that is something we really embody, serving the community. Yes, we serve shakes and teas, but it’s a lot more than just that.”

One thing The Locker Room does is provide free teas to any McPherson High School team that goes to compete at the state level. They also focus on giving back to the community through charitable fundraisers and donations. Already this year, they’ve been able to give $5000 back to the community.

Not only do they strive to serve the greater McPherson community, but they create a sense of community inside the café as well by greeting customers by name and knowing what’s going on in their lives. It’s little touches that make all the difference. For example, if they know it’s your birthday, they’ll add a candle to your cup so you can make a wish.

New customers are met with easy-to-understand menus that describe the many tea and shake options, including monthly specials. They’re pretty strict with the specials – once it’s off the menu, it’s gone. The only exception is on Customer Appreciation Days a couple days a year when they’ll do “Call Your Tea” and you can order any tea they’ve ever had.

The Locker Room is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Stop in when you want a healthy treat or an energizing boost. They’re very active on social media so that’s a great way to keep up on their specials and special causes. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to be in the know. And, of course, check out photos from the March 7th Chamber Connection.
