Member Spotlight – U.S.D. #418
McPherson Public Schools exists to help people find their passion and realize their own moments of greatness, no matter how big or small. There are six focus areas in which will help the school district reach its goal, “…be recognized as a top-performing school district in Kansas and across the nation.” The six areas are: 1. Academic Experience, 2. Unified Culture, 3. Facilities & Infrastructure, 4. Engagement & Activities, 5. Faculty & Staff, and 6. Community Partnerships.
When asked how the schools can get students to come in to the different businesses to learn about the company and see the paths for career exploration, Dr. Vincent’s response was, “Those are the type of partnerships we want to make sure we lift up. We know it’s best for our students, best for our community when those partnerships are there.”
During the Chamber Connection, we learned about the success that McPherson Public Schools have received the last few years. Check out the photo link below to see the highlights of success that the students, teachers, and faculty have achieved.
Ann Elliot, Board of Education President, shared with everyone in attendance about the 2023 Proposed Bond Scope. She described the process that the Board of Education has pursued in the last 1.5 years to find the true needs of the facilities. The board held visioning sessions with community and staff to look at key factors and develop possible solutions. Then, community members provided advice on possible options that emerged from these meetings. Now, the Board of Education is evaluating packages, costs, and financing options, using community feedback from the survey to guide the discussion. The Board of Education will be meeting on February 6 to hopefully make a final decision on the proposed scope and amount with a vote by ballot in May. Learn more about the facilities and proposed plans here.
