Member Spotlight- McPherson Center for Health
During Hospital Week, community members gathered at Chamber Connections to celebrate the important work being done at McPherson Center for Health and learn about the many ways the organization continues to expand healthcare services for McPherson and surrounding communities. Leaders and staff shared updates on new technology, specialized programs, and innovative services designed to keep quality healthcare close to home. “One of our biggest missions is really to keep care here when we can and make sure that we’re meeting the needs of those in our community,” said Charity Clark.
Clark also highlighted the hospital’s addition of swing beds, allowing patients who need skilled care to remain in McPherson rather than transferring to another community. “It’s been a huge benefit for our patients, so they don’t have to leave and go to another community,” she explained.
Several new services and technologies were showcased during the event, including the hospital’s physical capacity machine used to evaluate whether potential employees can safely perform physically demanding jobs. Erica Selzer described how the machine supports occupational medicine services by measuring strength and movement through computerized testing. “We take care of work comp injuries, DOTs, medical exams, urine drug screens, and our newest service is our physical capacity machine, or physical capacity profile,” Selzer said. Meanwhile, Carol Fickes announced the launch of a new menopause clinic after community feedback revealed a strong need for specialized women’s health services. “We are proud to announce we have a fully-functioning menopause clinic within our rural health clinic staffed by Melisa Kieffer, PA,” Fickes shared. Additional updates included a transition to a new electronic health records system, which Kayla Moritz, Director of Marketing, said will bring improvements to the patient portal and communication tools.
Beyond medical services, McPherson Center for Health continues investing in the future of healthcare through education partnerships and workforce development. Jamie Hicks spoke about the hospital’s collaboration with local high school students, who spend a semester shadowing clinical departments and exploring healthcare careers. “They get a chance to see an area that they may or may not have known about,” Hicks said. “It’s been a really fun partnership with these kids.” The impact of McPherson Center for Health can also be seen in the numbers. The facility delivers between 10 and 17 babies each month, sees an average of 25 emergency room patients daily, and serves approximately 3,000 patients per month through its Rural Health Clinic. The laboratory performs an estimated 360,000 tests each year, while the Hess Fitness Center maintains nearly 1,000 memberships.
