Member Spotlight- Elyria Christian School
What started with families who wanted to incorporate Christian values within the education system, has been embraced by the community and continues to grow. We are referring to Elyria Christian School that opened in 1982 with 22 students in grades K-4. Today the school provides a Christian education to over 200 students in grades K-12. Elyria Christian School, located at 1644 Comanche Road in Elyria, offers a top-notch academic program where students score significantly higher than the national average on standardized tests. They also have many athletic programs and fine arts programs. All important pieces of an education, but what sets Elyria Christian School apart is guiding their students on their spiritual journey. Elyria Christian School, a private Christian school, “challenges students to discover their God given abilities and encourages them to use those gifts to pursue excellence in all aspect of life.”
Along with daily bible classes and chapels, they also work on building relationships between the younger and older students through mentorships, prayer partners and buddy systems. Tonya Robertson, the Development Director, said it is great to see the connections and friendships that grow from these mentoring opportunities. Another unique program at Elyria Christian School is the high school retreat that is a two day and overnight camp. According to Lead Administrator Allen Siemens, the retreat focuses on how they want to start the school year and is a weekend that results in many great friendships and special memories.
