Member Spotlight – McPherson Police Department Substation

On Tuesday, October 14, the McPherson Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new McPherson Police Department Substation located at 218 E. Kansas Avenue. Community leaders, city officials, and local residents gathered to mark the occasion and show support for the project that promises to strengthen public safety in the heart of the city. Chamber Ambassador Eric Duerksen, Public Works Director for the City of McPherson, welcomed attendees by noting, “We’re excited to introduce a new building for the city and the police. It’s a growing community and growing needs every day. So, one more step in the progress forward.”

Police Chief Mikel Golden expressed gratitude on behalf of the McPherson Police Department, highlighting the collaboration and dedication that brought the substation to life. “This building is more than just a structure of materials like brick, wood, and glass,” he said. “It is a testament to the support we have received from our community and our dedication to serve.” Chief Golden emphasized that while the substation offers much-needed space and presence downtown, it is not the final step. “Now that the hard work is complete, the real work can begin,” he said. “With opening this Substation, we are not just expanding our space. We are expanding our potential.”

Chamber President Kayla Moritz and Mayor Tom Brown also offered congratulations and perspective on the significance of the project. Moritz said, “We know you all just play a really integral role in the safety of our community, and we know that having a more centralized location will help you serve our citizens more efficiently, more effectively.” Mayor Brown echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the time it took to reach this milestone and clarifying, “This is not to replace the Police and Safety Center that we have planned to finally go west of Fire Station #2. This is an addition and what we needed in the Downtown area.” With modern office space and a welcoming lobby, the substation represents another step in McPherson’s commitment to public safety and community growth.
