Member Spotlight- McPherson Public Library

The McPherson Public Library is marking National Library Week with the theme “I’m So Happy You’re Here! Find Your Library Joy!” and inviting the community to explore everything it has to offer. Open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and weekends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Library continues a legacy that stretches back more than a century. Director Mckenzie Murphy greeted guests during a recent Chamber Connections event, saying, “I just wanted to say welcome. Our library has been continuously running since 1902. So next year, we’re celebrating our 125th and we have lots of stuff going on.”
Programming remains a cornerstone of the library’s outreach, with events designed for all ages. Lindsay Helms, who leads adult programming, highlighted the upcoming Summer Kickoff Party on May 15, saying, “We’re having a party… it’s all going to be right out here and all of Memorial Park.” She added that there will be a DJ, lots of booths, interactive games and activities, food trucks, and they’ll be releasing summer readings. Lindsay also pointed to other creative offerings the Library provides like the Silent Disco Pop-Up Series, explaining, “You put on these fun headsets, and are multiple different DJs and playlists going at one time. Everybody dances… it’s a really exciting time.” Beyond events, the library provides unique resources such as Experience Passes to regional attractions and the ever-popular Library of Things, where, as Helms shared, “everything checks out just like a library book.”
Whether using the McPherson Room for local history research, exploring digital services like Kanopy, or simply enjoying a welcoming space to read and connect, the library stands as a vibrant hub for the community. National Library Week serves as a reminder of its enduring role—and an invitation for everyone to discover their own library joy. The McPherson Public Library is located at 214 W. Marlin.
