Member Spotlight- The Ark Antiques & Flea Market

The Ark Antiques & Flea Market at 301 S. Main in McPherson has become a destination for treasure hunters since opening its doors in July 2020. What began as a leap of faith during an uncertain time has grown into an award-winning antique mall and indoor flea market featuring 100+ vendor booths and a staff of 11 employees (part-time and full-time) ready to help customers track down that perfect find. Co-owner Ben Coffey recalls the early days: “We started The Ark in July of 2020, right in the middle of COVID. That was an exciting and also a very scary time.”

The business launched with just 12 vendors, quickly growing to 36 by the second month. “Our capacity right now is about 100 vendors, and we’re full with a waitlist,” he said. The name itself reflects the store’s abundant variety. “The name is from the Noah’s Ark parable- we’ve got two of everything, with the goal of eventually having 100 of everything. There’s just lots to see and lots to shop from.”

And “lots to see” may be an understatement. Shoppers will find everything from home décor, furniture, DVDs, books, electronics, jewelry, antiques, vintage pieces, handmade treasures, and even nostalgic candy from the “good old days.” Specialty food items such as honey, apple butter, jams, and unique spreads like maple pecan, jalapeño, lemon, raspberry, and apple cinnamon line the shelves. Clothing, fun socks, dish collections, fabulous furniture, and items for kids ensure there’s something for every age and interest. The Ark’s many themed rooms — including Giraffe, Bat Cave, Monkey Maze, Hippo Hideaway, Elephant Empire, Bear Bungalow, and Bison Boulevard — make exploring the space an adventure of its own. With more than 100 vendor booths under one roof, visitors are encouraged to allow plenty of time to wander and discover that special something they can’t live without.

The Ark is also known for hosting creative community events. Jermae, who handles social media and marketing, is excited about the upcoming ThriftFest on March 14th. The ticketed event will feature more than 50 vendors with nothing priced over $5. “We will also have Flatland T Model T Club here. They will be giving rides in antique cars throughout downtown that day, which is also Main Street’s Spring Open House. Hopefully downtown will just be bustling full of people,” Jermae said. Looking ahead, Mike, The Ark’s Operations Manager shared details about the growing Highway 56 Sales Scramble, scheduled for April 23rd–26th. “Last year, we started this with 100 miles from Great Bend to Marion, and this year we’ve expanded even more to about 200 miles,” he said, noting the idea was inspired by similar highway sales events. Coffey also hinted at future plans. “The Ark is going to start dabbling in estate sales,” he explained, aiming to help families who are downsizing or settling estates. Open seven days a week — and closed only on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas — The Ark Antiques & Flea Market continues to build on its mission of offering a fun, unique shopping experience for the McPherson community and beyond.
