Member Spotlight – The Cedars

Nestled in the expansive campus of The Cedars among the apartments and duplexes is the Cedars Café, and just outside the café’s window is a beautiful garden with a small waterfall area for residents to enjoy. This garden is known as Carma’s Garden and has been dedicated to Carma Wall. Carma has had a major impact on The Cedars residents, families, and staff. She diligently served The Cedars for 22 years, 12 of which she was the CEO.

Recently Carma was honored with the dedication of Carma’s Garden to thank her for her years of dedication and the endless hours of service to The Cedars.  Carma’s Garden was designed by Kurt Wagner and his staff, who carefully chose plants that would bloom throughout the year and also created a small cascading waterfall, providing a beautiful and calming backdrop for residents as they enjoyed a meal or good conversation in The Cedars Café. Carma’s Garden will be featured as one of the stops on of the McPherson Master Gardener & Friends Garden Tour which is on June 26th.

The Cedars Retirement Community is a 60-acre campus offering short and long term healthcare needs, as well as maintenance-free living to adults aged 60 and above. The campus offers independent senior living, assisted living, healthcare living, memory care living, and rehabilitation services. But did you know that The Cedars is the longest running retirement community in Kansas?

The Cedars story started 127 years ago with the purchase of farmland in Darlow, Kansas. Then in 1953, The Cedars purchased land on Kansas Avenue in McPherson and the retirement community was established there. In 1981, the land that is at 1021 Cedars Drive was purchased and The Cedars story continues to where they are today … with 116 duplexes, 50 assisted living, 12 memory care apartments, and 75 licensed health care beds.
