Agriculture Scholarship Awarded to Canton-Galva Senior

The McPherson Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Camden Kruse, a 2026 graduate of Canton/Galva High School, has been selected as the 2026 Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Scholarship recipient for McPherson County. This annual scholarship is made possible through the long-standing partnership with AFA, an organization committed to developing the next generation of agricultural leaders.

The McPherson Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee has raised funds for several decades to support local students pursuing agriculture-related degrees. Over the years, we have awarded 37 full scholarships and 16 conference-only scholarships, helping young leaders build a strong foundation for their future careers. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and college undergraduates pursuing a four-year degree in agriculture or related fields. Donors interested in supporting future scholars may contribute to the AFA Scholarship Fund at the McPherson County Community Foundation.

Kruse has shown exceptional commitment to agriculture, leadership, and community service. He has been actively involved in his family’s small breeding beef operation, where he and his sister worked to incorporate specific genetics into their herd to develop a competitive show string. He also works as a farmhand for a local land and cattle operation, where he discovered a passion for precision mapping and agricultural technology. This interest has inspired him to pursue a career in precision agriculture, which he will study at Kansas State University’s College of Engineering beginning this fall.

In addition to his agricultural experience, Kruse has been active in FFA, National Honor Society, public speaking competitions at cattle shows, and athletics. His involvement in the National Honor Society has been especially meaningful, providing weekly opportunities to volunteer at the local senior center, where he assists with cleaning and dishwashing, and connects with senior community members.

As the 2026 scholarship recipient, Kruse will receive $3,200 toward tuition, fees, and books, as well as fully funded participation in the AFA Leaders Conference, taking place November 12–15, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri—an additional value of $1,250.

The AFA Leaders Conference is a premier leadership development experience designed to help undergraduate students bridge the gap between college and career in agriculture and food systems. Participants build essential skills in relationship development, systems thinking, collaboration, cultural and interpersonal intelligence, and career management.

Camden represents the dedication, innovation, and leadership that the McPherson Chamber of Commerce aims to support through its partnership with AFA. His passion for agriculture and commitment to personal and professional growth reflect the core values of this scholarship program.
